Okay, Okay, it is not really a question any more. I have been teaching kindergarten for the last year and have absolutely loved it.
John, my completely better half, and I have been doing the “Dave Ramsey” plan for financial peace. It has been hard work but, we are doing so well at it. It is providing so much more financial freedom. More on that in a later post.
The interviews for the next school year have been taking place over the past few weeks. I have debated what is best for our family. My school let me know that they would only be hiring a full-time kindergarten teacher for the upcoming year. So, I had some decisions to make.
I decided that if I were going to teach full-time, Kindergarten is the place to do it. There are multiple reasons but, I will not be doing anymore work that I currently am. I will just have two classes but the same amount of lesson planning etc…
Reason 2: I lOVE the school I am at. They are a group of really nice people. They have a similar teaching philosophy that I have. The child is THE most important thing. Meeting the basic needs of the child comes first then academic growth. I am in no way indicating that academic growth isn’t important. It definitely is! However, if the child is not getting their very basic needs met, then we can’t possibly expect academic growth to happen at the same rate as other children.
Reason 3:How fun is kindergarten? Oh My Gosh. You are giving students their first experience with school. You are teaching them everything from how to behave, how to work independently, how to be kind etc..
Reason 4: because Kindergarten is so easy!!! NOT! I had no idea before I started teaching how much kindergarten has changed. Did you know K’s have to know all their letters, sounds, count to 100, and be reading on a level D by the end of the year? Some K’s have not even been exposed to learning formally. K’s come into class with some knowing NO letters and some knowing all of them and beginning to read. Can you imagine trying to fill in all of those gaps? with up 60 kiddos.
Reason 5: I love teaching! There are few things more fun than looking for inspiration on Pinterest, leading blogs, books and articles. I get to attending education seminars. The fun never stops! 🙂
Finally, I made the decision to Teach. I found a great lady who take care of our kiddos that will be home for 1/2 day. I am excited for the opportunity to be at a great school, with amazing co-workers teaching some fabulous kiddos.
So here is to the upcoming year and actually having a whole summer to prep. By the way, I already have my first month planned and all of my back to school notes copied and ready to go. I am on this!! I am also so grateful for the opportunity.
