I am sitting in a hospital room right now. My oldest daughter has appendicitis. She will be having surgery this morning. When i got off work last night, she called to tell me she wasn’t feeling well. I gave her the typical mom advice. Try a heating pad, the BRAT diet and try and get some rest. She called at 2:30 in the morning and said, “Mom I am in the emergency room. The pain didn’t go away so I came here. The did an MRI and I have appendicitis. (interject some crying here) Mom, I don’t know what to do.” I replied,” Okay, I am on my way.”
Because that is what mom’s do. They jump in the car and rush to their children in an emergency.
I had about 2 hours of sleep this night and day before I had to return to work. ( I am being very generous on the 2 hours of sleep)
She had her surgery and is completely recovered at this point.
I have had some time to reflect on being a mom to this beautiful angel who came into my life.
I have also reflected on all of my children and my role in their life.
I am not sure how many of them will ever call and say “Mom, I need you” but, I will stand at the ready. I will be prepared to drive or fly and help them as I can.
Being a mom is more than giving birth. It is more than discipline and teaching. It is more than hugs and cuddles. It is more than a listening ear.
It is the single most important a woman can do.
There is a problem in our world right now. With the disintegration of the family, we are experiencing more and more turbulent times.
when we focus on our family and strengthen it, our world will have no choice to become better. Children will have grown up in a place that supports and encourages them. they will have grown up in a place that offers them love and acceptance, no matter what.
As a mom, I will stand at the ready to support and defend my family.
I will answer the silent “Mom I need you” and the vocal plea.
Because let me tell you all when my child cries “Mom, I need you” I respond with, ” I am here. I am your strength and your support. I will always be here for you!”
