Today, I had to go to THS (where 4 of my kids attend) and OJH (where 4 kids attend). To go to school here in Utah, we have to pay school fees. They range in price but included is : locker fees. library fee, textbook rental and then it depends on what classes you take. I needed to go to the school and get those squared away before school starts (2 weeks from today).
I was at OJH when the lady asked how many kids I have at each of the schools. I proceeded to tell her ( 4 at THS, 4 at OJH, 5 at B.E., 2 in preschool and 2 at home). Another lady overheard our conversation and asked ” are you kids all biological? Because there was a woman here yesterday who gave birth to all 13 of her kids.” Like I am not as amazing as her because I didn’t give birth 20 times. While I recognize she wasn’t trying to put me down or anything. It is that type of phrasing that can be hard. ” No, mine are adopted.” Then, she asked my last name. I told her. She said, “Oh! I am the Rm. 5 teacher (the chokey, the timeout room, whatever you want to call it) how is ______ doing?” Obviously, my child has visited her a time or two or more. :/
We talked for a few minutes and I said, ” You have a tough job with the kids that can be naughty.” She said , ” Oh, there aren’t naughty, they just have more character than other kids.”
My heart and my mouth smiled. Here I was with this wonderful lady who sees my child often during the school year, letting me know that she loves my child. This made me so glad to know that wonderful people take care of my children when I am not there. So grateful for the many teachers who truly love what they do and their students. You make a world of difference.
Made my heart smile. …
