Laundry soap is SO expensive. Let’s face it, when I do 6+ loads of laundry a day, that is a LOT of soap. It costs us about $30 to buy all the ingredients. The washing soda and Borax last a long time. I am pretty sure we average about $5 for 10 gallons of laundry soap! You can’t beat that! It is FAST and EASY to make.
Ingredients and Supplies
- 1 Fels Naptha bar soap (this link has everything needed to get started)
- 1 cup Arm & Hammer Washing Soda
- 1 cup Borax
- Hot Water
- Measuring Cup
- Cheese Grater/ Food processor
- 5 Gallon Bucket
- Wooden Spoon
- Grate the Fels Naptha Bar soap. Bring one cup of water to boil add grated soap and stir until melted. Fill your 5 gallon bucket half way up with hot water add Borax, Melted soap and Washing soda. Stir really well. Fill the bucket the reminder of the way with hot water.Stir well. Put lid on. Wait overnight. Your soap should gel a little. Fill your laundry soap dispenser up with half of the homemade laundry soap fill the other half with more water. Use as regular laundry soap.* I add a little GAIN liquid laundry soap because I LOVE the smell. I have also added essential oil to the dispenser approx. 10 drops depending on size.
