Well, our big day finally arrived!
We were able to welcome 5 more littles into our ever expanding family. The three oldest first came to live with us in February of 2012. This was a hard time to take on three little kiddos. They were 2, 1 and 4 months old. I was just finishing my college course work and preparing for student teaching. We were swamped. We felt impressed to say yes and so we did.
We were told repeatedly that they would be going with their tribe (they are native american). We were told if they couldn’t find a relative, or go back with their family they would go with their tribe. We were good with that. We already had 15 children and had no plans to take any more. Our youngest was in kindergarten so, we (meaning me) definitely did not want to go back to diapers x3.
Well, something amazing happened. The tribe (eventually after much heartache) decided they were not going to take the children from our home. There were several instances when we thought they were going to leave. I remember one day at court when the tribe said they were going to take them. I put the baby to bed and she softly kicked my tummy as she usually did. I was singing to her and I burst into tears thinking I wouldn’t see her grow up.I wondered if she would remember me (silly I know). I wondered if she would cry for me. It was tough!
Well, on Dec 31 2012 bio mom gave birth to another little girl. We were asked to take her in as well. I had just gotten hired for my first year of teaching. We still thought they were leaving us. So, we decided I could work and we could juggle everything for a few weeks. :/ I taught the school year and they were still with us. Talk about hard.
That summer 2013, we found out we could move forward with the adoption. Then, the parents attorney filed an appeal. We waited for the ruling (DENIED, we could move forward). So we started the paperwork again. Only to be informed they had filed another appeal…DENIED. Finally we thought lets finish this only to find out about another appeal. This one took longer to wait for. So, the answer finally came that this to was denied.
We were planning on moving forward and found out that mom was going close to giving birth again. In October 2014, we were able to visit the newest little one. 2 weeks later, he came to our home from the hospital.
Anyway, court continued on in the typical and lengthy way. We were finally able to petition for adoption at the beginning of August 2015. We were given our adoption date of Nov 4 2015.
On November 4, 2015 we welcomed into our family these 5 beautiful children: Elijah Nicolas, Ezekiel Scott, Daviana Michelle, Elsie Aline and Shaloh Micheal. So here is their official introduction into the world!
