Good day to all of you!
Today is the first day of school here in Utah, United States. I am slightly apprehensive as the day gets started.
The alarm squawks bright and early at 6 am. (This isn’t really early for some but the kids finally started to sleep until 7-7:30am)
Some of the kids have showered. Some are still rubbing sleep from their eyes but the excitement/nervousness of the first day of school has arrived. I can tell because the new school items are out and new shoes are on feet. Backpacks have been organized and reorganized in an effort to have everything just perfect.
Scripture and prayer rejoins us easily in our morning routine (as we have become slightly inconsistent over the summer). The morning is in full swing. Kids have just received their “father blessing” the night before and they are getting ready to take first day of school pictures.
I sit on the couch and watch all of the excitement around me. This year we have 1 junior, 3 sophomores, 1 freshman, 3 in 8th grade, 2 in 6th, 1 in 5th, 1 in 4th, 1 in Kindergarten, 2 in preschool and 2 at home (although we just found out that one of them will be able to start preschool in January). I am filled with excitement and nervousness about how my day will be different as well. It will definitely be more quiet. How will I feel to be left at home while they all go? I know I look forward to the time with my littlest two without the other kids. I look forward to teaching the alphabet, counting, colors, shapes and reading stories. I look forward to nap time (quiet time).
Anyway, the day has gone well. I had our annual Back to School banana split party for Mom’s at 9:30 am (after all the kids were dropped off at school). That is always a fun time. Thank you for coming, Tena, Britta, Natalie, Janelle, Jolene, Kenice and for bringing all of your adorable kiddos.
Well, the school year has begun and while I am a little sad to have missed out on preparing a classroom, I love this time I am able to be home for my kiddos.
I am anxiously awaiting seeing the school kids smiling faces as they all relate a million things that happened to them today. Meanwhile, I have stories to read and kids to play with so…I am off to do that.
Do you have any back to school traditions?
A few of my cute kiddos.
